Dear Lily June,
Your mother is no photographer and is barely a poet. But there was something about the concept of bokeh which spoke to me yesterday, a photographic term which refers to the aesthetic, intentional capturing of blur. Forgive me my little offerings, daughter. In the absence of wealth, words are the only treasure I can bequeath.

Last Wishes in Bokeh
for LJ
That firework that looks like a weeping willow of light?
When I die, pack my ashes—bone and tooth—into that hollow
body, let me go out with a burst across the night, your eyes,
their inextinguishable grin watching your mother’s flight.
When I die, pack my ashes—bone and tooth—into that hollow
stern, a paper lantern built like a boat, a pyre fit for fireflies,
their inextinguishable grin watching your mother’s flight.
Make mine a Viking funeral in reverse. I’ve already burned bright
as a stern, a paper lantern built like a boat, a pyre fit for fireflies.
Imagine I’m a moth drawn to a bare swinging bulb of moon.
Make mine a Viking funeral in reverse. I’ve already burned bright
as a bokeh blur in a photograph of this life, being your mother.
I am now a moth drawn to the bare swinging bulb of the moon’s
body. Let me go with a burst across the night, your eyes catching
a bokeh blur in a photograph of my life, seeing your mother
become that firework that looks like a weeping willow of light.

(And my apologies for being a day late–and always a dollar short–on the photo challenge! I probably got bokeh wrong anyway, so who cares if it’s not timely, eh?)
For what it’s worth, Lily, here’s a much better image of bokeh taken by a real photographer (credited below) and not your clueless mother. See how the blur makes up the background and not the foregrounded image? That’s more it.

Not a poet my arse. Please woman! There were so many inspiring lines! I tried to narrow it down to one in which I could make flow the emotions in which it bubbled up, but alas…my wing would only flutter as I stuck to the bulb like a….
Well done, and the bokeh effect is wonderful, since from it came this poem.

Where are your posts, Bits?! 😦 I miss them. Of course, I have no right to ask for any more to read from you since I already owe you emails. (You and everyone, really.)

I’m trying lol! I got what we call ‘the bug’ in which I’m wanting to crawl under a rock. It’s gone from baby Tank to me, and me to Jay. Hopefully food will stay in soon and I can feel well enough to sit and finish a post. And yes…you owe an email but it’s not bothering me. You have all kinds of commitments Hun! All I have is a toilet to snuggle up to. No worries!

Incidentally, I feel like an ass since I never said it here, but I hope you & the brood are feeling better!

Srsly? No worries! Hubby is now on the mend and I’m back at 100%…but keep Birdie in your prayers…she called from school and is now sick. Smh😞

I know I’m going back a bit for this one, but I just wanted to say I hope Birdie’s better by now! (Oh, the alliteration!)

It’s ok. I do it too. I think on your blog most of all. It’s a thing. I get it. Kind of like how I have followed way too many blogs but the OCD requires me to like and comment on every one, every day. I guess it’s a good things I love the blogs so much! That and I’m up all night anyway.

“Not a poet my arse” – Exactly! Beautiful imagery in your words and photo. And I learned a new word! Win-win.

The photo does look like an electric weeping willow.
And in case you didn’t get notifications when I ‘liked’ both of the proceeding comments regarding their disbelief in your whole not a poet line, let me repeat that disbelief a third time in print (which coincidentally means you you are actually seeing 5 instances of disbelief). In other words – hogwash.
